Rhode Island’s Twin River Casino opened up a 16-table poker room on Thursday, after beginning to flirt with the idea earlier this year. It’s the state’s only poker room.
The games offered are Texas hold’em and seven-card stud, and the room is open from noon to 4 a.m. during the week, but hours are expanded during the weekend. The room is open nonstop from Friday afternoon to 4 a.m. Monday, according to a report from NBC 10 News.
The Racebook is now open 7 days a week. Twin River Casino Hotel and sister property, Tiverton Casino Hotel, are the only places in New England where you can place sports bets on professional and college games. Twin River’s second betting location, the Sportsbook Bar & Grill, is now open and in addition to sports betting powered by William HIll, features a full bar with over 100 TVs, odds boards, comfortable seating areas and a dining menu. Our non-smoking poker room is open 24/7 and features 19 tables.
Twin River received the OK to add house-banked table games just three years ago. It currently has 4,500 slot machines and more than 100 table games.
The casino also is planning a 200-room hotel, which could break ground this spring.
The move to make Twin River into a more robust casino comes not long after a slots casino opened up in neighboring Massachusetts.
Combined with the Newport Grand slots parlor, Rhode Island’s gambling industry yields the state more than $350 million annually in tax revenue.
